Dear Friends
We have just finished a very successful year; one characterized by wonderful parish fellowship and a fruitful financial year! Now it’s time to begin looking ahead to 2025. To that end, we have stood up a new Stewardship Committee, consisting of Dean Doug Michael, Warden Jann Vanstedum, John Robertson, Gerald Courage, Doug Green and myself. From time-to-time we will augment the committee when needed to reach our goals.
The general mission of St George’s could be summarized as: Worship, Service and Inspiration. The first two, we do very well. It is the third one where I see the mission of stewardship. To me, stewardship has been difficult to define. Frequently, it meant just raising more money. While that is part of the answer, there is much more to it. Stewardship should be a yearlong activity including interesting and creative gatherings, sharing one’s gifts, energies, talent and resources to sustain our sense of togetherness, and community.
As an example, 2025 will be the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the laying of the corner stone of the present church. Later in 1828, the church was consecrated. There is a committee that will be planning a three-year-long series of events to mark these events.
Other events will be new and creative ways for the congregation to meet our missions, including a seminar on estate planning, and reviewing our annual pledges. It will also be a time to encourage our congregation to think creatively about how each of us can participate in the success of our community.
As we move ahead in the new year, the committee will stay in touch and provide you with regular information. Please contact us with any suggestions you would like to see covered or if you have any questions.
